Minis Zone
Today • Mon, 29 Jun 2026
This NAIDOC Week, the Minis Zone becomes something special — a warm, welcoming space designed for you and your Minis to slow down, sit together, and share in the celebration of 50 Years of Deadly.
A Library Filled with First Nations Stories
At the heart of the Minis Zone sits a curated library of books by First Nations authors, illustrators and storytellers — all available for your Minis to pick up, page through and get lost in. Handpicked from QBD, Readings and the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, the collection spans stories for every age and every kind of reader.
You'll find picture books that celebrate Country, family and connection — like Somebody's Land and Ceremony by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing, Our Home, Our Heartbeat by Adam Briggs, Coming Home to Country by Dr. Bronwyn Bancroft, and Family, Sharing and Respect by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson. Little ones can meet real-life heroes in Born to Run by Cathy Freeman, Finding Our Heart by Thomas Mayo, and This Book Thinks Ya Deadly! by Corey Tutt — a joyful celebration of Blak excellence perfectly aligned with this year's theme.
For the youngest Minis, we've got sweet, sensory stories like Little Bird's Day and Welcome, Child! by Sally Morgan, Hello and Welcome by Gregg Dreise, and Miimi Marraal, Mother Earth by Melissa Greenwood. And for those with a curious eye, Sounds All Around Us, Nature All Around Us and Numbers All Around Us turn everyday learning into a celebration of Country
Every book in the collection has been chosen with care — each one a small doorway into culture, story and connection.
Colouring In with Nungala Creative
Alongside the library, you'll find a dedicated colouring-in station featuring artwork from Jessica Johnson of Nungala Creative — the First Nations artist behind Broadway's Stay Deadly hero installation. Your Minis can settle in with pencils in hand, colour their own version of Jessica's bold, joyful designs, and take a piece of the celebration home with them. Additional colouring sheets from the Indigenous Literacy Foundation round out the offering, giving little ones plenty to explore.
A Space That Stays
While the Minis Zone lifts into full NAIDOC celebration this July, the library and colouring-in are here all year round — part of Broadway's ongoing commitment to celebrating First Nations storytelling with our smallest community members, every day of the year.
Come through with your Minis. Sit for a while. Read a story. Colour something bold. And discover why the Minis Zone is one of Broadway's most loved spaces to learn and create together. Don't forget to book in for a Minis NAIDOC workshop during NAIDOC Week with First Nations Artists.
At Broadway, we're proud to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly with our community — through Jessica Johnson's hero artwork, a week-long program of activations, and a centre filled with the colour, sound and spirit of NAIDOC. Find out What's On Here.
