Glebe Youth Services: A Community Powering the Next Generation
Just down the road from Broadway sits one of Sydney's most quietly powerful community organisations — Glebe Youth Services (GYS). For 30 years, GYS has been backing young people in Glebe to reach their potential, achieve their goals and contribute positively to the community around them.
Young People Matter
GYS is a not-for-profit charity built on one simple belief: young people matter. Located in the heart of the Glebe Estate, GYS provides a safe, judgement-free environment where young people can come as they are — to connect, to learn, to be supported, and to grow.
The majority of young people accessing GYS identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and live on the Glebe Estate in public, social and Aboriginal housing. GYS meets its community where it's at — offering everything from casework and mentoring to food relief, cultural workshops, education pathways and social programs designed to build confidence, connection and long-term opportunity.
The Programs Making a Difference
GYS runs a broad range of programs supporting young people aged 12–24, including:
- After Dark — the award-winning program that's been running for over 15 years, offering a safe teen-only space on Friday nights and a whole-of-community event every Saturday, complete with a hot meal, sport, art, music and cultural workshops
- Boyzone and Girlzone — dedicated support programs building life skills, confidence and positive mentoring for young men and women in Glebe
- Food Circle — a weekly food relief program delivering fresh, nutritious food directly to local families
- Music Studio, Teentime, Middle Ground and School Holiday Programs — creative, social and educational spaces designed to keep young people connected, curious and cared for
Every program is grounded in the same values: equity, care and respect — and delivered by a team of trained youth and social workers who bring skill, warmth and dedication to their work.
Broadway Sydney Is Proud to Support GYS
Broadway Sydney is proud to be a contributor to Glebe Youth Services — supporting the incredible work GYS does every day to back the young people of our local community. Our partnership is a small part of a much bigger story, but it reflects something we care deeply about: showing up for the community that surrounds our centre.
Because young people matter. And when a community backs its young people, the whole community thrives.
