Good Food Shouldn't Go to Waste — Here's How OzHarvest Is Changing That
Every day, good food goes to waste. At the same time, millions of Australians don't have enough to eat. OzHarvest exists to bridge that gap — and Broadway Sydney is proud to be part of their mission.
Who Is OzHarvest?
Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004 after noticing the huge volume of food going to waste, OzHarvest quickly grew to become Australia's leading food rescue organisation — saving surplus food from ending up in landfill and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need, free of charge.
Today, their iconic yellow vans save over 250 tonnes of good food every week from over 2,600 food donors, delivering it directly to over 1,500 charities feeding people in need across Australia.
The Problem They're Solving
Five million Australians experience food insecurity each year. That's families, individuals, and communities across every corner of the country who struggle to put food on the table. Meanwhile, enormous quantities of perfectly good food are thrown away by supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and businesses every single day.
OzHarvest's mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need, and protect the planet — championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society.
How You Can Help
Broadway Sydney is hosting an OzHarvest food drive from Monday 20 April to Wednesday 13 May 2026. Simply pick up a non-perishable item during your next shop at Broadway Sydney and drop it in the collection bin outside Coles. Pasta, rice, canned goods, cereal, long life milk — every item donated goes directly towards feeding someone in need.
It takes less than a minute. And it makes a real difference.
